Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 6: Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Monday criticized Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government for allegedly filing false cases against party Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) in an attempt to suppress voices raised in defense of the people.
“The Revanth Reddy government is targeting those who speak up for the people with illegal cases. The government is taking vengeful action against our party’s Working President KTR with baseless charges. We are not intimidated by these false cases,” Kavitha said.
Kavitha also slammed the Congress-led government for not fulfilling its promises, especially with regard to the Rythu Bandhu scheme. She claimed the government reduced the promised financial assistance for farmers from Rs 15,000 to Rs 12,000, thus deceiving them.
“Our struggle for the rights of the people will continue unabated. Congress had promised Rs 15,000 under the Rythu Bandhu scheme but reduced it to Rs 12,000, betraying the farmers,” she asserted.
She added that BRS workers are staging widespread protests across the state in response to what they perceive as a betrayal. In retaliation to these protests, the government has resorted to filing illegal cases, Kavitha claimed.
“The Congress government cannot escape justice in the people’s court,” she stated.
Earlier on Sunday, K.T. Rama Rao accused the Telangana government of breaching its promise to the farmers and called for a protest demanding the restoration of the Rs 15,000 assistance per acre as initially pledged.
“It is a gross betrayal by the Congress party in Telangana. They had made a clear promise during the Warangal rally, with Rahul Gandhi present, that Rythu Bandhu would be increased, giving an additional Rs 5,000 to farmers who were receiving Rs 10,000 for two crop cycles,” KTR said.
On December 12, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to begin depositing funds under the Rythu Bandhu scheme into farmers’ accounts. The Chief Minister’s office also stated that an action plan to waive loans of up to Rs 2 lakh for farmers would be prepared soon.
