Darmstadt [Germany], May 23: The Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), under the leadership of Shafi Burfat, has issued a powerful appeal to the United Nations, global human rights organisations, and democratic nations to recognise Sindhudesh as an independent nation and condemn Pakistan’s military dominance and systematic suppression of Sindhi people.
In its comprehensive document titled the Sindhudesh Global Freedom Charter, the JSMM portrays Sindh as a historically rich civilisation—home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization—that has endured colonial rule first under Britain and now under what it labels a “Punjabi-dominated military-security state” in Pakistan.
The Charter asserts that Sindh’s inclusion in Pakistan in 1947 was involuntary, arguing that the province was denied its national aspirations and historical identity. JSMM further accused the Pakistani state of exploiting Sindh’s natural resources—including oil, gas, coal, ports, and fertile land—while marginalising the Sindhi population through state-backed demographic engineering.
The document raises serious allegations of enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings by Pakistani security forces targeting Sindhi political activists, journalists, and students. It also accuses the state of using anti-terrorism laws to suppress secular and nationalist movements, while fostering religious extremism.
JSMM called for the establishment of a secular, democratic Republic of Sindhudesh, based on minority rights, social welfare, and equality, and cited international norms including the UN Charter and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) in support of Sindh’s right to self-determination.
In a direct appeal to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India, the JSMM requested moral, political, and logistical support, citing cultural and historical ties between India and Sindh. The group also urged international observers to visit Sindh, monitor the situation, and condemn Pakistan’s human rights violations while assisting in what it described as Sindh’s peaceful liberation movement.
