Pune (Maharashtra) [India]: Union Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the recent Pahalgam terror attack, assuring the nation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed a strong and befitting response to the incident.
Speaking at a public gathering in Pune, Nadda said, “We all observed two minutes of silence and prayed for the peace of the departed souls. An unfortunate incident has occurred involving two families from the city of Pune. I am going to meet their families today.”
He emphasized that the entire nation stands united in grief and anger, stating, “The entire country is angry and saddened by this incident, and Prime Minister Modi has said that a befitting reply will be given.”
Earlier in the day, Nadda offered prayers at the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir and sought divine strength for the country during this hour of crisis. “I prayed to Ganesha so that, through his wisdom and strength, India can emerge from this hour of crisis. A befitting reply will be given under the leadership of PM Modi,” he added.
The terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow on April 22 claimed 26 lives, including two families from Pune, sparking nationwide outrage.
In response, India has taken significant countermeasures, including the temporary suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan—a decision made during a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by PM Modi.
Meanwhile, fear has gripped Kashmiri students across the country amid unverified reports of threats and harassment. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has received over 1,000 distress calls, and emergency helplines have been set up.
However, security agencies have refuted these claims, labeling them as fake news spread by malicious elements, and confirmed that Kashmiri students and traders remain safe across India.
