Joshua Jackson Reflects On Life Lessons From Emilio Estevez During The Mighty Ducks Days

Washington [US]: Actor Joshua Jackson recently reminisced about his experience filming The Mighty Ducks trilogy and shared valuable advice he received from co-star Emilio Estevez during his appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Guest host Brooke Shields asked Jackson about the key lessons he learned from Estevez while working together on the beloved franchise.

“I was quite young. And I kind of learned how to be on set from Emilio because I didn’t know any of this stuff,” Jackson recalled, as reported by People.

Jackson portrayed Charlie Conway in the iconic trilogy, which began with The Mighty Ducks in 1992. Estevez played Gordon Bombay, a former youth hockey player who ends up coaching the team as part of his community service.

Recalling a memorable moment from shooting D2: Mighty Ducks (1994), Jackson described a lesson Estevez taught him about humility and gratitude.

“One day, while shooting a game sequence in an arena full of fans — probably around 20,000 people — I was coming off the ice. I don’t know if I was tired or just being a little dick, but there were a bunch of people waiting for autographs, and I just blew past them to head to the locker room,” Jackson shared.

Estevez quickly stepped in to correct him.

“He pulled me aside and said, ‘Don’t ever do that again.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?'” Jackson recalled.

Estevez replied, “Don’t ever, ever do that again. Why do you think you get to go out there and skate in front of all of these people? This is who keeps you employed. Do not ever forget who it is that you’re here for,” Jackson recounted.

Brooke Shields praised Estevez’s words, calling his advice “brilliant.” She added, “My mom used to say, ‘Every person is one person.’ And that relationship is just between you and them, and you have to respect it.”

Reflecting on Estevez’s lesson, Jackson admitted, “It was a really important reframing for my 15-year-old self — to just remember who you are and what’s important.”

The Mighty Ducks franchise also featured Kenan Thompson, Marguerite Moreau, Elden Henson, and Jussie Smollett. Estevez reprised his role as Bombay in the first season of the 2021 Disney+ series Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, according to People.

Currently, Jackson stars as Dr. Max Bankman in Doctor Odyssey, a series described as a “fun, sexy, beautiful, fast-paced Ryan Murphy fantasy.”

“It’s the first time in a very long time that I’m playing a pretty uncomplicated guy,” Jackson said in September 2024. “He’s a good doctor and a good man trying to figure out his life.”

Doctor Odyssey airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Hulu.
