Los Angeles/Tulsa: The Broadway musical The Outsiders, which Angelina Jolie co-produced, is ready to commence its North American tour. It will begin on October 8 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show is based on the 1983 movie, which was based on S.E. Hinton’s 1967 book of the same name. It follows Ponyboy Curtis, his two brothers, and his closest buddy Johnny as they deal with issues of family, community, and social differences.
Jolie said in a YouTube video that the show’s effect was “extraordinary.” She talked about how it affected everyone, saying, “Everywhere in the world has something that has challenged those neighborhoods, those families, those people, where you’re wondering your place, and where communities or class systems put people against each other and have made them feel very different and separate.”
Danya Taymor, the director, said that The Outsiders is one of those rare stories where people of different ages, races, political or religious convictions can all be in the same place and feel the same emotions. Jolie also said that the musical is so good that people often bring friends or relatives who don’t want to go but end up adoring it.
The Broadway show launched on April 11, 2024, and it has won four Tony Awards. The North American tour will stop in more than 30 cities until September 2026. The cast includes Banal Fambrini, Tyler Jordan Wesley, Jaydon Nget, Mark Doyle, Jackson Reagin, and Nolan White. The Tulsa Performing Arts Center is where the tour starts.
