Joey Lawrence Recalls Childhood Fishing Trip With John Candy And Carl Reiner

Washington [US] : Actor and musician Joey Lawrence recently shared a cherished childhood memory involving comedy legend John Candy and iconic director Carl Reiner. Speaking at 90s Con at the Connecticut Convention Centre in Hartford, Connecticut, Joey reflected on one of the most unforgettable moments of his 30+ year career in showbiz.

During a panel alongside his brothers Matthew and Andrew “Andy” Lawrence, Joey recalled his first-ever fishing experience while working on the 1985 comedy film Summer Rental. “I caught a flounder in St. Petersburg, Florida, with Carl Reiner, who was a very famous director. I didn’t even realize who he was at the time,” he said, according to People.

Joey continued, “I was doing a movie called Summer Rental with John Candy. It was the first time I’d ever gone fishing. I caught this incredible, massive flounder. The chef cooked it, and John Candy ended up eating it for lunch.” He fondly added, “John Candy’s the best.”

In Summer Rental, directed by Carl Reiner, Joey Lawrence played the son of John Candy’s character. The film also featured performances from Richard Crenna, Rip Torn, Karen Austin, Kerri Green, and John Larroquette, among others.
