Washington [US], May 22– Joey King is currently in negotiations to star in the sequel to the 1998 cult classic ‘Practical Magic’, joining Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who will reprise their iconic roles as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the upcoming film is slated for release on September 18, 2026, and will continue the mystical story based on Alice Hoffman’s bestselling novel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, King is expected to portray one of Bullock’s daughters, who uncovers long-buried family secrets and her own burgeoning dark powers—setting off a supernatural crisis.
The sequel will delve into themes of sisterhood, female empowerment, generational trauma, and domestic abuse, all within a magical, whimsical framework. The project reunites Bullock, Kidman, and producer Denise Di Novi, who are all returning in producer roles.
The screenplay is being co-written by Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Georgia Pritchett (Succession, Veep). Production is scheduled to begin in London later this summer.
If finalized, this would mark Joey King’s second collaboration with Nicole Kidman, following their work together in the upcoming Netflix film The Family Affair, which also stars Zac Efron.
King is best known for her breakout roles in The Kissing Booth trilogy, the Hulu true-crime drama The Act—which earned her an Emmy nomination—and films like Bullet Train and The Princess.
