Leeds [UK], June 22: England’s star batter Joe Root moved up the ranks of cricketing greats on Saturday, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya to become the ninth-highest run-scorer in international cricket history.

Root reached the milestone during England’s first Test against India at Headingley, Leeds. He scored 28 runs off 58 deliveries, including two boundaries, before falling to Jasprit Bumrah—for the 10th time in 25 innings, averaging just 29 against the Indian pacer.

With this, Root now has 21,053 runs in 366 international matches (479 innings) at an impressive average of 49.30, including 54 centuries and 112 half-centuries. His highest score in international cricket is 262, and he remains England’s all-time leading run-scorer across formats.
