Joe Kent, director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, has resigned citing strong opposition to the ongoing Iran War. In a letter addressed to Donald Trump, Kent stated that Iran posed “no imminent threat” to the United States and criticised the decision to enter the conflict.
Kent, once a staunch supporter of Trump, said the war was influenced by pressure from Israel and an “echo chamber” of officials and media narratives. He added that the conflict serves no benefit to American citizens and risks unnecessary loss of lives.
A military veteran who served 11 deployments, Kent also shared a personal connection, revealing he lost his wife in a previous war. He urged Trump to reconsider the situation, warning against prolonged military engagement in the Middle East.
