J&K To Reopen Tourist Parks In Phased Manner After Pahalgam Attack, Says LG Manoj Sinha

Srinagar: In a move aimed at restoring normalcy and reviving tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday announced that parks and tourist spots that were shut down due to security concerns following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack will be reopened in a phased manner starting June 17.

Eight Destinations Reopening in Kashmir

LG Sinha, after visiting the Nunwan Base Camp of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra in Pahalgam, said that the first phase of reopening includes:

  • Beetab Valley, parks near Pahalgam market
  • Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal gardens in Anantnag district
  • Badamwari Park, Duck Park (Nigeen), and Taqdeer Park (Hazratbal) in Srinagar

“These places will now be accessible to tourists again,” he said.

Eight Destinations Reopening in Jammu Region

Sinha added that eight locations in the Jammu division are also being reopened:

  • Sarthal and Dhaggar in Kathua
  • Devipindi, Siyad Baba, and Sula Park in Reasi
  • Guldanda and Jai Valley in Doda
  • Pancheri in Udhampur

Further destinations will be opened in the next phase, based on security assessments.

Security Review and Tourist Surge

A committee comprising divisional commissioners and IGPs from both Jammu and Kashmir regions will assess additional sites in consultation with the Tourism Department.

“There’s renewed enthusiasm after the launch of the Vande Bharat train. Railways told me all tickets are booked for the next 10-12 days,” Sinha said, highlighting a steady increase in tourist inflow.

He added that the Centre will also hold meetings of Parliamentary delegations and committees in Srinagar, boosting confidence among visitors and locals alike.

Amarnath Yatra 2025: Security and Facilities

The annual Amarnath Yatra begins on July 3, and the LG assured that foolproof security arrangements have been put in place by the J&K Police, Army, and CAPFs.

He urged pilgrims to strictly follow convoy travel protocols and expressed confidence in the support from locals.

“This is not just an administrative event. The yatra is held together by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It boosts the local economy and tourism. Everyone must come forward to make it a success,” Sinha emphasized.

He noted significant improvements in infrastructure for pilgrims, including power and telecom connectivity and better halting facilities.

Community Engagement and Reassurance

Sinha also met with stakeholders including MLAs, DDC members, travel operators, Ponywala associations, and hoteliers at Pahalgam. He assured them that restrictions on remaining tourist spots will be lifted after thorough security evaluations.
