Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 25: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha held a high-level security meeting with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar on Friday, calling for swift and decisive action against those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack.
The LG strongly emphasized the need for the Indian Army, police, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to work in close synergy to:
- Identify perpetrators, enablers, and overground workers (OGWs) behind the April 22 attack.
- Destroy the terrorist infrastructure and support ecosystem.
- Ensure justice for the victims and rebuild confidence among citizens.
“Every perpetrator and supporter of the Pahalgam terror attack, whatever his location or affiliation, must be hunted and must pay the heavy price for the cowardly and dastardly act against our citizens,” LG Sinha stated.
🔍 High-Level Security Review
The meeting was also attended by:
- Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, GOC-in-C Northern Command
- Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Deputy Chief of Army Staff
- Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, GOC 15 Corps
They reviewed:
- Current security posture across the region
- Short-term and long-term counterterrorism strategies
- Coordination mechanisms among multiple security agencies
- Measures to counter Pakistan’s attempts to violate ceasefire across the Line of Control (LoC)
⚔️ Army Chief Reviews Ground Actions
General Upendra Dwivedi, on his first visit to Srinagar after assuming charge, was briefed by 15 Corps Commander on the ongoing search and combing operations, current intelligence inputs, and ground-level coordination among security forces.
The Army is reportedly in a state of high alert, launching multiple anti-terror operations since the April 22 attack in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, that claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and 1 Nepali citizen, making it one of the deadliest attacks since Pulwama 2019.
The Indian Army Chief is also overseeing readiness along the LoC, as Pakistani forces are reportedly attempting to aid infiltration and disrupt the ongoing crackdown on terror modules in the Valley.
🔴 National Outrage and Policy Shifts
The Pahalgam attack has led to widespread national protests, a diplomatic freeze with Pakistan, and massive security escalations:
- Airspace closure by Pakistan for Indian flights
- India suspending Indus Waters Treaty talks and closing the Attari border crossing
- Visa cancellations and staff reductions at both high commissions
The government has also signaled its intent to go beyond conventional measures in eliminating cross-border terrorism, with Prime Minister Modi chairing a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) earlier this week to coordinate a multi-pronged national response.
