Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday visited Ramban district for the second time to assess the damage and relief efforts following a devastating cloudburst that struck the area last week.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Ramban and senior civil and police officials, traveled from Srinagar to Marog—one of the worst-affected villages—before trekking several kilometers through difficult terrain to reach Kela Morh, where flash floods had caused widespread destruction.
According to officials, incessant rains, hailstorms, and landslides in the region have resulted in heavy property damage. At least three people, including two children, were killed in Bagahana village after a house collapsed. A temple and several vehicles were also damaged in the flash floods.
Speaking to ANI, Imtiyaz Ahmed, SDM of Gool, confirmed that 37 houses and one temple were damaged in the calamity. “Although there was a significant loss of property, no lives were lost in some areas. Several cattle are also reportedly missing,” he said.
Restoration efforts, which began on April 22, include clearing debris, restoring roads, and delivering essential supplies. “We are providing all necessary support such as food and medicine. A complete assessment is underway, and rehabilitation is ongoing,” Ahmed added.
CM Abdullah met with local residents and assured them that his government is committed to full rehabilitation and timely assistance. An official statement highlighted the government’s coordinated response, with PWD, BRO, disaster response teams, police, and volunteers all working tirelessly to restore normalcy.
