Jharkhand Cabinet Expanded With 11 MLAs Sworn In as Ministers, JMM 6, Congress 4, RJD 1

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], December 5: The JMM-led Mahagathbandhan government in Jharkhand witnessed the much-awaited expansion of its cabinet, with 11 MLAs taking oath as ministers. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, was administered by the state governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

Since his oath-taking on November 28, Chief Minister Hemant Soren had been the sole member of the state cabinet. However, today’s ceremony marked the formal expansion with the induction of additional ministers.

Among the newly sworn-in ministers, six belong to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), four are from the Congress, and one ministerial post was allocated to the RJD.

The JMM’s new ministers include Yogendra Prasad, Sudivya Kumar, Ramdas Soren, Hafizul Hasan, Deepak Birua, and Chamra Linda. The Congress has inducted four of its MLAs: Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Irfan Ansari, Dipika Pandey Singh, and Radha Krishna Kishore. RJD MLA Sanjay Prasad Yadav also took the oath as a minister in the Mahagathbandhan government.

Hemant Soren assumed office as Chief Minister for his second consecutive term on November 28. The JMM-led alliance, steering the INDIA bloc, secured 56 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, with JMM winning 34 seats and its allies—Congress, RJD, and CPI-ML—securing 22 seats. The Congress won 16 seats, RJD secured four, and CPI-ML won two. The BJP-led NDA secured only 24 seats, with the BJP winning 21 seats, and its allies AJSU, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD-U securing one seat each.

Earlier in the day, JMM leader Manoj Pandey emphasized that the Jharkhand government will ensure representation from all sections of society, stating, “The Jharkhand government led by Hemant Soren will have leaders from every section of society. The names of the cabinet ministers were delayed as the Congress announced its choices last night. A balanced cabinet will be formed to take everyone along.”
