Washington [US], January 7 : Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially concluded their divorce proceedings, marking the end of their brief two-year marriage.
Court documents obtained by E! News on January 6 confirm that the couple has reached an amicable divorce settlement. The divorce filing, submitted by Lopez in August 2024, follows their marriage in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2022.
The settlement stipulates that both Lopez and Affleck will retain the earnings they individually acquired during their time together. Neither party will be required to pay spousal support. Lopez will also revert to her maiden name, “Lopez,” after having changed it to “Affleck” following their wedding.
Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing a separation date of April 26, 2024. Speculation about their relationship had been mounting in the months leading up to the filing, with Lopez appearing solo at the 2024 Met Gala and other public events, which fueled rumors of a split.
In an interview with comedian Nikki Glaser, Lopez candidly discussed the emotional impact of the breakup, revealing that her “whole world exploded” after the separation. She also reflected on the importance of personal growth, stating, “You have to be good on your own. I thought I learned that, but I didn’t.”
Since the divorce, Lopez has focused on her well-being, spending more time with her family and taking a break from her tour. She emphasized that she is not seeking a new relationship, instead embracing her freedom and personal growth during this period.
Despite their split, Lopez and Affleck have maintained a cordial relationship, often seen together at family events. In September, they attended a family gathering with their children, including Affleck’s kids from his marriage to Jennifer Garner, as well as Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme. They were also spotted sharing a holiday meal in Los Angeles before Christmas.
Lopez, reflecting on the difficult time following the breakup, said, “It was probably the hardest time of my life, but it was also the best time because I got to do that work on myself.”
