Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: Despite a tough IPL 2025 campaign for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), seamer Jaydev Unadkat has thrown his weight behind captain Pat Cummins, praising his composure, tactical acumen, and positive influence in the dressing room.
SRH are currently ninth on the IPL points table, managing only three wins in ten games, a stark contrast to their 2024 season, where they finished runners-up after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
“He’s been really good,” Unadkat said of Cummins. “This is my second season here, and he is a good thinker on and off the field. He keeps the atmosphere positive—and that’s what you need from a leader.”
Reflecting on the season’s ups and downs, Unadkat acknowledged that the team has struggled to build momentum but credited Cummins for his steady leadership. “From a leadership point of view, he has been good in terms of passing on the messages… It’s just that the momentum is not coming our way.”
On Friday, SRH’s campaign suffered another blow with a 38-run defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Gujarat’s batting trio — Sai Sudharsan (48), Shubman Gill (76), and Jos Buttler (64 off 37) — propelled GT to a massive 224/4, and their bowlers dismantled SRH’s chase with precision.
SRH’s playoff hopes now hang by a thread, but Unadkat’s vote of confidence in Cummins underscores the dressing room’s faith in their captain, even as the franchise seeks to turn their campaign around in the remaining matches.
