Jasprit Bumrah Steals Spotlight With Five-Wicket Haul And Humour At Lord’s

London [UK], July 12: India’s pace ace Jasprit Bumrah delivered a stellar five-wicket haul and a moment of humour during a press conference after Day 2 of the third Test against England at Lord’s.

Bumrah led India’s bowling attack under sweltering London heat, finishing with 5/74, claiming crucial wickets of Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, helping India bowl out England for 387.

During the post-day press conference, a light-hearted moment emerged when a journalist’s phone rang. Without missing a beat, Bumrah joked, “Somebody’s wife is calling. But I will not pick it up,” leaving the room in laughter.

His five-wicket performance earned him a place on the prestigious Lord’s Honours Board. Reflecting on his most cherished memory, however, Bumrah recalled the 2021 Lord’s Test, where he and Mohammad Shami staged an unforgettable 89-run unbeaten partnership, followed by a match-winning bowling spell that led India to a dramatic 151-run victory.

“I don’t think much about stats. My favourite memory is from the last time we played here — when Shami bhai and I helped win the game with the bat. Now being on the Honours Board is great. Someday, I’ll tell my son that my name is up there,” Bumrah shared.

After being rested for the second Test as part of workload management, Bumrah returned amid speculation about his form — which he silenced with a remarkable spell.

“Whenever I play for India, I want to contribute. Judgement is part of professional sport — it never stops,” he said. “Even when Sachin sir played 200 Tests, he was judged. So I’ve learned to accept it.”

With his composed mindset, sense of humour, and elite skill, Bumrah continues to be a key figure in India’s cricketing journey.
