Jasprit Bumrah Returns To SCG After Scans Show Improvement In Back Spasms

Sydney, Australia, January 4 : During the second session of Day 2 of the fifth and final Test between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Jasprit Bumrah was seen in the dressing room after returning from scans. Reports indicate that the right-arm seamer was experiencing back spasms. Team India’s medical staff is expected to provide an official update soon.

If Bumrah is unable to bowl, it could be a significant blow for India, as they lead by 145 runs with just four wickets remaining in their third innings. Earlier in the session, Bumrah had been seen leaving the field with support staff.

Cricket.com.au shared a video on social media showing Bumrah seated in the dressing room alongside his teammates, raising concerns about his fitness.

Despite the injury, Bumrah achieved a significant milestone earlier in the match. He surpassed legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi’s record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in an overseas Test series. Bumrah dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for just two runs in the fourth over, bringing his tally to 32 wickets in the ongoing series, surpassing Bedi’s record of 31 wickets during India’s 1977/78 tour of Australia.

Bumrah has been in sensational form throughout the series, having taken 31 wickets at an average of 12.64, with a best of 6/76. He has claimed three five-wicket hauls and bowled the most overs (143.2) for India in the series, followed by Mohammed Siraj with 130.1 overs and 16 wickets.

Bumrah’s contributions have been not limited to his bowling, as he has also scored 42 runs at an average of 8.40, facing 87 balls, with a best score of 22. This surpasses the total runs scored by Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the series, who has made just 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.20.
