Janmashtami Celebrations Turn Tragic In Hyderabad, Five Die Of Electrocution

HYDERABAD — Five persons died and four others were hurt in an electrocution accident that happened during a happy Janmashtami celebration in Hyderabad. A group of people was taking part in a procession with a chariot bearing an icon of Lord Krishna when the accident happened late Sunday night in the Ramanthapur neighborhood of Gokulnagar.

Uppal police say that the procession stopped when the car that was pulling the chariot broke down. After that, a group of men started pulling the chariot by hand. The chariot hit a live, high-tension power wire, which was a terrible turn of events. The electric shock threw nine people away, and five of them died right away from their injuries.

The dead people include Krishna Yadav (21), Suresh Yadav (34), Srikanth Reddy (35), Rudra Vikas (39), and Rajendra Reddy (45). Four additional people who were hurt are being treated at a private hospital nearby and are in stable condition. The bodies of the dead were moved to Gandhi Hospital so that autopsies could be done. Police have opened an investigation and filed a case to find out what really happened.

Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and state Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud sent their sympathies to the families who lost loved ones. With the recent heavy rain, which makes it more likely that electric lines may snap, Prabhakar told people to be extremely careful during these processions. He promised that the government would help the families who were hurt in every way possible.
