Mumbai: Actress Janhvi Kapoor paid a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, the legendary Sridevi, by wearing her royal blue saree to the special screening of her latest film, Homebound. The event, which took place in Mumbai, was a celebration of the film’s incredible achievement of being selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
Janhvi, who has been on a busy schedule with the release of her film Param Sundari and her appearance at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, looked stunning as she arrived for the screening. She chose a timeless piece from her mother’s wardrobe: a beautiful blue saree that Sridevi herself wore to actor Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli’s wedding reception in 2017.
Like her mother, Janhvi completed the classic look with heavy gold jewelry and styled her hair in a neat bun. Her choice was met with a wave of emotion and praise from fans on social media. Many expressed their gratitude that she did not alter the traditional look, with one fan commenting, “Thank you for not ruining this saree with a bralette blouse that she has been wearing in almost every color. She looks beautiful.” Another emotional netizen wrote, “Aww she looks beautiful in this saree. Hope she feels in a way her mom is with her too.” The moment was a touching tribute to Sridevi’s enduring legacy in the world of fashion and cinema.
The screening was attended by the film’s cast, including Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, and also saw the presence of Janhvi’s rumored boyfriend Shikhar Pahariya and his family. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound has been receiving critical acclaim after its screenings at both the Toronto and Cannes Film Festivals. The film, which is based on a real story, is a powerful drama that explores themes of ambition and friendship against the backdrop of caste and religious challenges in rural India.
Homebound is set to release in Indian theaters on September 26, 2025.
