Actor Janhvi Kapoor has addressed the online backlash she received for chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” at a recent Dahi Handi event in Mumbai. The incident, which occurred during Janmashtami celebrations, led to the actor being trolled on social media. She has since clarified the situation on her Instagram Stories.

Janhvi shared a video clip from the event, showing a man from the crowd chanting the slogan right before she did. She explained that she was responding to the crowd and that not saying it would have also caused a problem. “If I did not say the slogan after him then it would be a problem and now that I have said it, they cut the video and make it meme material,” she wrote, adding a laughing emoji.
She further emphasized her stance, stating, “Not only on Janmashtami, I will say Bharat Mata ki Jai every single day!”

During the Janmashtami event, the actor also spoke in Marathi, extending her greetings to the attendees. She encouraged everyone to watch her upcoming film, Param Sundari, which is scheduled to release on August 29. The movie is a romantic comedy featuring a cross-cultural love story between a character from Delhi, played by Sidharth Malhotra, and a character from Kerala, played by Janhvi Kapoor. The film also stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya.
