Amaravathi (Andhra Pradesh) [India]: In a solemn tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, JanaSena Party President Pawan Kalyan has announced a three-day mourning period, condemning the attack that claimed the lives of 28 innocent civilians, as per an official statement released on Wednesday.
As part of the mourning:
- Party flags at all JanaSena offices will be flown at half-mast.
- Candlelight vigils will be held each evening across the state.
- A statewide human chain will be organized on Friday to denounce terrorism and express solidarity with the victims and their families.
Pawan Kalyan, expressing deep sorrow, stated:
“The loss of innocent lives in such a heinous act is a dark day for the nation. My thoughts are with the grieving families. This is not just a tragedy for Kashmir, but for the entire country. We must stand united against terrorism.”
National Mourning and Reactions
The terrorist attack, which took place in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, Anantnag district, has sent shockwaves throughout the country. It is considered one of the worst terror incidents in the Valley since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
On Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid his respects to the victims in Srinagar, laying a wreath at the Police Control Room, and reiterating the Centre’s commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Security Measures and Tourist Evacuation
In response to the attack, security forces have launched a large-scale search operation in and around the Baisaran area to trace the terrorists. The tourist-heavy town of Pahalgam, typically bustling with visitors, now wears a deserted look amid heightened security measures.
The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has arranged special evacuation flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai, ensuring the safe return of stranded tourists. Airfares are being monitored to prevent any hike, and more flights will be added as needed.
Public Outrage and Collective Mourning
Multiple civil society groups, political parties, and trade unions have called for a shutdown across Jammu and Kashmir to denounce the attack. Candlelight marches were seen in Baramulla, Kupwara, Poonch, and Srinagar, as communities gathered to pay their respects.
Back in Andhra Pradesh, the JanaSena Party’s call for collective mourning has been welcomed by party workers and citizens alike, symbolizing a united stand against terror and a commitment to peace and humanity.
