Jan Aushadhi Ensures Affordable Treatment: PM Modi In Silvassa

Silvassa (Daman and Diu) [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday emphasized the importance of healthcare projects and the impact of the Jan Aushadhi initiative in making treatment affordable for the common people. Addressing a gathering in Silvassa, PM Modi said, “Jan Aushadhi ensures affordable treatment. Under this initiative, the government is providing quality hospitals, free treatment under Ayushman Bharat, and affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi centers.”

He highlighted that over 15,000 Jan Aushadhi centers across India are offering medicines at discounts of up to 80%, with around 40 such centers operating in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu. The Prime Minister also revealed the government’s plan to expand the network to 25,000 centers in the future.

Since the launch of this initiative, affordable medicines worth nearly Rs 6,500 crore have been distributed, resulting in savings of over Rs 30,000 crore for poor and middle-class families. PM Modi noted that this scheme has significantly reduced the cost of treating critical diseases, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of the ordinary citizens.

Industrial and Economic Growth in the Region

PM Modi praised the rapid industrial growth witnessed in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu over the past decade. He highlighted the Mission Manufacturing initiative introduced in the recent budget, stating that it would significantly benefit the region.

“Hundreds of new industries have started, and several existing industries have expanded, attracting thousands of crores in investment,” he said. These industries are providing substantial employment opportunities, especially for the tribal community, women, and marginalized groups.

The Gir Adarsh Jeevika Yojana has been implemented to empower SC, ST, OBC, and women, alongside new self-employment opportunities through small dairy farms, PM Modi added.

Tourism and Infrastructure Development

Tourism was highlighted as a major employment generator in the region, with the area’s beaches and cultural heritage attracting both domestic and international tourists. PM Modi mentioned the development of attractions like the Ram Setu, Namo Path, Tent City in Daman, and the popular Night Market.

He also announced the establishment of a large bird sanctuary and plans for an eco-resort in Dudhani. The ongoing development of coastal promenades and beaches in Diu was also emphasized.

The Diu Beach Games 2024 boosted interest in beach sports, and the Blue Flag certification has made Ghoghla Beach a popular tourist spot. Additionally, a cable car project is under development in Diu, offering breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea, aimed at transforming the region into one of India’s top tourist destinations.

Connectivity and Infrastructure Enhancements

PM Modi highlighted significant improvements in connectivity in Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Diu. A bullet train station is being built near Dadra, and the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway passes through Silvassa.

Over the past few years, several kilometers of new roads have been constructed, with over 500 kilometers of roadwork currently in progress, involving investments worth thousands of crores. The region is also benefitting from the UDAN scheme, with upgrades to the local airport to improve connectivity.

“The government is committed to ensuring comprehensive development and improving infrastructure in the region,” PM Modi said.

Good Governance and Ease of Living

Expressing his happiness, PM Modi stated that Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu are becoming models of development, good governance, and ease of living. He pointed out that earlier, people had to visit government offices repeatedly, but now, most tasks can be completed with a single click on mobile phones.

He highlighted the success of special camps organized in villages to address people’s problems on the spot. The Prime Minister also congratulated Praful Patel and his team for their efforts in advancing the region’s development.

Emotional Connect with the Region

Recalling his long-standing connection with the region, PM Modi said, “The natural beauty of Silvassa and the love of its people, as well as Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, you all know how long my connection with you has been. This decades-old bond, the joy I feel when I come here, only you and I understand it.”

He launched various development projects worth over Rs 2,580 crore in Silvassa and also inaugurated the Namo Hospital earlier in the day, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the region’s progress and well-being.
