Jammu And Kashmir Steps Up Security Ahead Of Eid-Ul-Fitr Celebrations

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: As Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations approach, Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified security across the union territory to ensure a peaceful and smooth observance of the festival. The heightened security measures come as markets across the country, including in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Patna, witness a surge in activity with eager shoppers preparing for the grand celebration.

With the holy month of Ramadan coming to an end, the last-day rush has taken over markets, with people shopping for clothes, dry fruits, perfumes, and traditional sweets. Women are seen purchasing burqas and salwar suits, while men opt for kurtas and pyjamas. Markets remain open late into the night after the evening namaz, as crowds gather at city squares and shopping intersections.

Festive Buzz Across Major Cities

In Kolkata, markets near Zakaria Street, adjacent to the Nakhoda Mosque, are packed with shoppers. Traditional Eid delicacies such as Lachha and Banarasi Seviyan, fried in ghee, are in high demand. Handmade local Seviyan is also a popular purchase. Perfume shops are witnessing a rush, with customers buying imported Itra/Attar fragrances. Dates and dry fruits, especially those imported from Saudi Arabia, are flying off the shelves.

Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar area is adorned with festive decorations, drawing large crowds purchasing clothes, jewellery, sweets, and other traditional items. Similarly, in Patna, markets are bustling with locals shopping for Eid essentials, from garments to sweets.

Leaders Extend Eid Greetings

On the eve of Eid, President Droupadi Murmu extended her heartfelt greetings to citizens in India and abroad.

“On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all Indians, especially to our Muslim brothers and sisters,” she said.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also shared his warm wishes, emphasizing the festival’s role in strengthening cultural unity and mutual respect.

“Eid reminds us of the strength we draw from our cultural diversity and the common bonds that unite us. The essence of this holy day transcends mere celebration; it embodies the constitutional ideals of unity, compassion, and mutual respect that form the cornerstone of our diverse democracy,” he stated.
