Jammu And Kashmir Incomplete Without PoK: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

Akhnoor (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], January 14: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday asserted that Jammu and Kashmir remains incomplete without Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and warned Pakistan about the use of PoK land for terrorist training camps.

“Jammu and Kashmir is incomplete without PoK. For Pakistan, PoK is foreign territory. The land of PoK is being misused for running terrorism businesses. Terrorist training camps are operating in PoK, and Pakistan must take action to dismantle them,” Rajnath Singh said at the 9th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day event in Akhnoor.

He further recalled how the Lal Bahadur Shastri-led government could have ended cross-border terrorism in 1965 by converting the tactical advantage gained in the war into a strategic one. “In 1965, the war between India and Pakistan was fought in Akhnoor. India successfully thwarted Pakistan’s attempts. Pakistan has been fueling illegal infiltration and terrorism since then. If the 1965 victory had been converted into a strategic advantage, cross-border terrorism could have ended back then,” he stated.

Rajnath Singh also highlighted the sacrifice of Indian Muslims in the fight against terrorism, mentioning that over 80 percent of terrorists entering India originate from Pakistan. He reiterated that bridging the gap between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country is a top priority for the government. “Our government is focused on bridging whatever gap exists between Kashmir and the rest of India,” he emphasized, noting the steps being taken by J&K CM Omar Abdullah in this direction.

Speaking at the event, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah acknowledged the contributions of veterans, calling them the true pillars of the nation. “You gave everything for the country, without worrying about your lives or future, and made immense sacrifices. It is now our duty to ensure your comfort and well-being,” he said.

Omar Abdullah also assured that veterans would receive all necessary support, including financial assistance through government schemes and reservation benefits in recruitment. He proudly shared that Satish Sharma, the son of a retired soldier, is part of his Cabinet, working to better serve the veterans.

Armed Forces Veterans’ Day, celebrated on January 14 each year, honors the service of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, who retired on this day in 1953. The day, first celebrated in 2016, continues to commemorate the sacrifices of ex-servicemen with events like the one held in Akhnoor.
