New Delhi (India): Students at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will face a significant increase in tuition fees this year, with hikes ranging from 19% to 41% across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The sharpest fee hikes are seen in humanities, social sciences, and science courses, while technical and professional programs have also experienced notable increases. This was revealed by comparing the university’s 2025-26 prospectus with that of the previous year.
For students in the Department of Persian, fees have risen by 41.41%, increasing from ₹6,700 to ₹9,475 per year. The Department of Arabic witnessed a 37.15% hike, with fees jumping from ₹7,200 to ₹9,875.
Similarly, foreign language courses such as BA in Turkish, French, and Spanish have also seen a 37.15% increase, now costing ₹9,875 per year.
Among social science programs, students pursuing M.A. and B.A. in Political Science, History, and Sociology, as well as the B.A. (Multidisciplinary) program, will now pay ₹9,875 annually, reflecting a 32.99% hike from last year’s ₹7,425. The B.Com (Hons.) fee has increased similarly, from ₹7,425 to ₹9,875 (33.02% increase).
In the Science stream, students enrolled in B.Sc. Geography, Mathematics, and Physics will pay ₹10,475 annually, marking a 34.29% increase from last year’s ₹7,800.
Technical and professional programs have also been affected:
- B.Tech fees have increased by 19.04%, from ₹16,150 to ₹19,225.
- M.Tech students will now pay ₹21,375 per year, up 16.48% from the previous ₹18,350.
- Law students pursuing B.A. LL.B. and LL.M. programs will pay ₹17,850, reflecting a 19% hike from ₹15,000.
In addition to the tuition hikes, JMI has introduced new self-financed courses for the 2025-26 academic year. Key additions include:
- MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – ₹52,400 per year.
- MSc in Disaster Management & Climate Sustainability Studies – ₹58,775 per year.
- PG Diploma in Air and Space Laws – ₹29,000 per year.
The university has also launched certificate programs in design, textile, photography, and calligraphy.
To ease the financial burden on students, JMI has introduced an installment-based payment system for self-financed courses, allowing fees to be paid in two parts.
