Miami: The highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis has been officially cancelled, according to an announcement on Monday. The bout, originally scheduled for November 14 in Miami, has been scrapped following a civil lawsuit filed against Davis in Miami-Dade County last week.
The fight, promoted by Paul’s company Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), had already drawn significant attention due to the massive weight difference between the two fighters — with Paul typically competing at cruiserweight (around 185 lbs) and Davis holding his title in the 135-pound lightweight division.
Fight Scrapped After Civil Lawsuit Against Gervonta Davis
The cancellation comes just days after MVP revealed it was “looking into the matter” following news of the lawsuit. Though specific details of the case have not been disclosed publicly, the development prompted the promotion to pull the plug on the November event.
“Jake Paul will still fight before the end of the year,” said Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions. “He will headline a new event streamed globally on Netflix, with the opponent, date, and location to be announced soon.”
This marks a setback for what was shaping up to be one of the most talked-about cross-division bouts of 2025, blending boxing legitimacy with entertainment spectacle.
Originally Planned for Atlanta, Later Moved to Florida
Initially, the Paul vs. Davis fight was set to take place in Atlanta, but it was later moved to Florida, where the boxing commission sanctioned the matchup despite the stark weight gap between the fighters. Critics had raised questions about the competitive fairness and safety of the contest, given Paul’s natural size and power advantage.
With the cancellation, it remains unclear whether Davis will seek another opponent or focus on resolving his ongoing legal issues before returning to the ring.
Jake Paul Eyes Year-End Bout on Netflix
Despite the setback, Jake Paul is expected to stay active in 2025. His next fight will headline a Netflix-streamed event, continuing his partnership with the platform following his successful bouts earlier this year.
Paul, who has transitioned from YouTuber to professional boxer, has built a 9–1 record, defeating a mix of MMA fighters and seasoned boxers. His last fight — a dominant victory earlier this year — solidified his intent to pursue legitimate boxing titles.
With a new matchup expected to be finalized soon, Paul’s year-end fight is likely to draw major viewership once again, given his ability to blend celebrity appeal with competitive boxing entertainment.
What’s Next for Gervonta Davis?
Gervonta “Tank” Davis remains one of boxing’s biggest stars in the lightweight division, holding multiple world titles. However, his legal troubles have interrupted his career before, and the latest lawsuit could delay his return to the ring.
As fans await clarity, it’s uncertain whether Davis will resume training for a future title defense or step back from competition temporarily.
