Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Meets Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto

New Delhi [India]: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, ahead of President Subianto’s role as the Chief Guest for India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a meeting with President Subianto at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, emphasizing collaboration in defense, security, maritime cooperation, economic ties, and cultural exchanges.

Invited by PM Modi, President Subianto is on a state visit to India, marking his first visit since taking office in October 2024. During their joint press interaction, President Subianto highlighted the historical and strategic ties between Indonesia and India, expressing deep appreciation for India’s support during Indonesia’s independence struggle.

“The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia is on land donated by the Indian government before we were recognized by many other countries. This demonstrates the deep and historic friendship between our nations. I feel honored to serve as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade, a tradition that began with Indonesia’s first President Sukarno being honored as the Chief Guest at India’s first Republic Day,” said President Subianto.

He also noted the significance of the Indonesian military contingent’s participation in India’s Republic Day parade. “For the first time, an Indonesian military contingent has taken part in a military parade outside of Indonesia. This reflects the enduring bond and cooperation between our nations,” Subianto added.

President Subianto extended congratulations on India’s 76th Republic Day and acknowledged the support provided by India during Indonesia’s independence movement. He remarked, “India was among the first strong supporters of our independence, providing assistance and support during critical times.”

Prime Minister Modi, in turn, described Indonesia as a key partner for India within ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific region. He reiterated the shared commitment of both nations to fostering peace, security, progress, and a rules-based order in the region.
