Former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Monday after experiencing repeated episodes of unconsciousness, officials said. The 74-year-old reportedly collapsed twice on Saturday while going to the washroom, prompting concern among family members and aides.
According to officials, Dhankhar initially visited AIIMS for a medical check-up, but doctors advised hospitalisation for further tests after reviewing his condition. He is currently undergoing detailed medical evaluation, including an MRI scan, to determine the cause of the blackouts.
Dhankhar had resigned from the post of Vice President in July last year, citing health reasons. His sudden exit from office had raised questions at the time, especially as he subsequently limited his public appearances.
Officials also revealed that Dhankhar has reportedly fainted on several occasions in recent months during public engagements in different parts of the country, including Uttarakhand, Kerala, the Rann of Kutch and the national capital.
No official statement has yet been issued by Dhankhar or his family regarding his current health status. Doctors are expected to share more information once the medical investigations are completed.
