New Delhi [India], June 18 : As India gears up for their five-match Test series against England starting June 20 at Leeds, all eyes are set on a compelling face-off between two of the game’s finest all-rounders—India’s Ravindra Jadeja and England’s Ben Stokes.
This high-octane series, which also marks the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 for both sides, brings back a storied rivalry between two seasoned campaigners who have battled each other across continents.
Jadeja, a key figure in India’s red-ball dominance, boasts a stellar record against England with 1,031 runs in 20 Tests at an average of 33.25, including two centuries and six fifties. With the ball, he has claimed 70 wickets at 32.57, including two five-wicket hauls and a 10-wicket match performance. His career-best figures against England are 7/48.
However, his numbers in England are more modest. In 10 away Tests, Jadeja has scored 563 runs at an average of 31.27 and taken 22 wickets at 46.13. Notably, his highest score of 104 came during India’s last tour at Edgbaston in 2022.
On the other side, England captain Ben Stokes has found India to be a challenging opponent. With the bat, he has scored 972 runs in 21 Tests at an average of 24.92, with one century and five fifties. At home, his numbers dip further—just 225 runs in seven matches at an average of 18.75.
Stokes’ bowling has fared better. Against India, he has taken 40 wickets at 31.17, and impressively, 26 of those have come at home at a remarkable average of 16.65.
In head-to-head matchups, Jadeja holds the edge, having dismissed Stokes six times in 19 encounters. Stokes averages just over 20 and strikes at about 53 against the left-arm spinner.
As both teams brace for a fierce Test battle, the duel between Jadeja and Stokes promises to be a defining subplot in this marquee series. Who will take the upper hand in this modern-day all-rounders’ clash? The answer begins to unfold on June 20.
