Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer was all smiles after his team’s dominant eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. With two wins in two matches, PBKS are now sitting comfortably at second place in the points table.
Shreyas Iyer: “This Is the Start We Required”
Speaking in the post-match presentation, Iyer praised his team’s execution and teamwork, highlighting how PBKS stamped their authority in the match.
“This is the start we required. Boys actually played their roles well, they contributed to the best of their ability, and whatever we planned, they executed it to the fullest.”
Iyer also emphasized that there’s no fixed formula for the right combination, but team synergy and a winning mindset are key to success.
“To be honest, there is no right combination. The camaraderie and synergy have to click at the right time. All teams have the potential to win the game, you just need to have a similar mindset of wanting to win – that is what we always talk about.”
LSG’s Struggles Despite Late Fightback
Batting first, LSG was reeling at 35/3 before Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30), Ayush Badoni (41 off 33), and Abdul Samad (27 off 12) provided some resistance, helping LSG post 171/7 in 20 overs.
PBKS’ Arshdeep Singh (3/43) was the pick of the bowlers, while Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzvendra Chahal also chipped in with wickets.
PBKS’ Batting Masterclass in Chase
PBKS made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 16.2 overs with only two wickets down.
- Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34) laid the foundation with an aggressive knock.
- Shreyas Iyer (52 off 30) and Nehal Wadhera (43 off 25)** finished the job with 22 balls to spare.
PBKS Marching Strong in IPL 2025
With this commanding win, PBKS have secured their second victory in as many games. Meanwhile, LSG slipped to sixth with just one win in three games.
Iyer remains focused on keeping the momentum as the tournament progresses:
“I always try to be in the present and this innings is history for me, just want to focus on the next one now.”
With strong performances across all departments, PBKS are proving to be early contenders in IPL 2025.
