Athens: Israeli television producer Dana Eden, known for co-creating the acclaimed espionage thriller Tehran, was found dead at the age of 52 in a hotel room in Athens, Greece, where she was staying during the filming of the show’s fourth season. The incident was confirmed by Reuters and Israeli broadcasters on Sunday.
Greek authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, and no official cause has been confirmed so far. According to the Associated Press, local police are treating the case as a possible suicide based on preliminary evidence and witness statements, though they have stressed that no foul play is suspected at this stage.
Police were alerted after Eden’s brother reportedly failed to reach her despite multiple attempts. Investigators are now reviewing security camera footage and collecting statements from hotel staff. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, and inquiries remain ongoing.
Production Company and Officials React
Donna and Shula Productions, the company behind Tehran, expressed deep sorrow in a statement, calling it “a moment of great pain for the family, friends and colleagues.” The company urged the public and media to respect Eden’s dignity and the privacy of her loved ones.
Addressing online speculation, the production house clarified that rumours of a politically or nationally motivated death were false and unfounded.
Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar paid tribute on social media, describing Eden as “one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.”
“Dana left a deep mark on Israeli creation and brought our story to international stages with pride, talent and courage,” he wrote.
