Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is taking steps to guarantee a steady supply of eggs for the upcoming Passover holiday, assuring the public that “supply of eggs for Passover will continue as usual.”
The average monthly egg consumption in Israel is approximately 200 million eggs, a figure that closely matches local production. However, during holiday periods, particularly before Passover, demand rises sharply to around 240 million eggs for the months of March and April. In typical years, to meet this increased demand, Israel imports around 80-100 million eggs annually, with approximately 40 million eggs brought in specifically for Passover preparations.
According to the Ministry’s daily monitoring, the current gap between local production and the demand for Passover is around 25 million eggs. Of this, one million eggs have already arrived in Israel within the past week, and the remaining eggs are expected to be imported over the next three weeks. Israel is currently importing eggs from avian influenza-free areas in the European Union, as well as eggs intended for industrial use from the United States.
