Tel Aviv [Israel], July 6: Israeli authorities announced the arrest of four Palestinians caught trying to smuggle approximately 100 protected songbirds into Israel from Jordan. The suspects were apprehended at the Allenby Bridge border crossing on Friday.
According to the Israel Police, the birds—identified as belonging to the pheasant species—were cruelly hidden on the suspects’ bodies, with their feet glued to clothing to prevent movement. These birds are protected under Israeli law, and their import requires special permits.
Officials emphasized that illegal wildlife trafficking poses significant risks, including the potential spread of diseases and harm to local ecosystems.
