ISPL Season 2 Garners Praise From Cricketing Legends Kaif & RP Singh

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) Season 2 continues to captivate cricket fans, seamlessly blending entertainment with high-quality tennis-ball cricket. The tournament has drawn packed crowds at Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in Thane, earning praise from cricket enthusiasts and former international players.

Former India Stars Laud ISPL’s Impact

According to an ISPL release, former Indian cricketers Mohammad Kaif and RP Singh, who have been analyzing matches from the commentary box, expressed their admiration for the tournament’s reception and format.

Mohammad Kaif: ISPL is a Game-Changer for Young Talent

Kaif, known for his match-winning heroics in the 2002 NatWest Series, commended the league for providing young and hidden talent with national exposure and financial stability.

“Tennis-ball cricket is in our genes. Legends like MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar all played tennis-ball cricket while growing up. Sachin even practiced with a wet tennis ball before matches,” Kaif said in an ISPL statement.

“It’s heartening to see tennis-ball cricket getting the recognition it deserves. The ISPL provides financial support and exposure, helping players prepare for larger platforms like first-class cricket and IPL,” he added.

RP Singh: A Structured Pathway for Street Cricketers

RP Singh, who played a crucial role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory, described ISPL as a revolutionary platform for tennis-ball cricketers.

“Fast bowlers in India often start with a tennis ball. Most cricketers transition from gully cricket, but structuring it into a tournament like ISPL is commendable,” Singh stated.

“The trials, selection, and auction process ensure a smooth journey for players. Financial stability and national recognition were missing earlier, but ISPL is changing the landscape,” he added.

Fond Memories of Tennis-Ball Cricket

Kaif and RP Singh reminisced about their early cricketing days, playing tennis-ball cricket in their hometowns.

“In Allahabad, we played on the streets. Whenever it rained, we’d rush out to play. Different places had their own rules, which shaped our cricketing skills,” Kaif recalled.

“My journey from Rae Bareilly to international cricket was long, but I also had my share of tennis-ball cricket. It teaches team bonding and the raw excitement of the game,” RP Singh added.

ISPL’s Rapid Growth: 30 Lakh Registrations & Expansion Plans

ISPL Season 2 has been a massive success, with over 30 lakh registrations. The league plans to conduct trials in 101 cities for Season 3, further expanding its reach.

The grand finale is set to take place on February 15, 2025, as ISPL continues to revolutionize grassroots cricket in India.
