Ishan Kishan Reflects On Momentum, Practice, And Belief After Blistering 94 In SRH’s Win Over RCB

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was at the heart of a commanding win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday at Lucknow, with a thunderous 94* off just 48 balls in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Despite the personal accolade and his “Player of the Match” honour, Kishan remained grounded, acknowledging areas for improvement and stressing the importance of self-belief and learning.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kishan emphasised the significance of maintaining momentum, especially when openers set a strong platform.

“When you get to bat first and both openers are looking in good touch, it’s your job to keep the momentum going,” said Kishan. “The moment I saw Abhishek and Head starting the game like that, I just knew it’s a very good wicket and we have to go over 200 at least.”

Kishan credited his confidence to intense practice sessions and reiterated the importance of adapting on the field:

“You get that confidence when you bat well in the practice sessions. One side was very big and there were gaps. I was just thinking of playing good shots.”

While Kishan’s scintillating knock — featuring 7 fours and 5 sixes — powered SRH to a mammoth 231/6 in 20 overs, he remained modest:

“Not so happy with the performance overall. We could’ve done much better. I could’ve done more for the team. It’s a game of learning. These things happen. You just have to keep believing in yourself and keep working hard.”

The explosive batting was complemented by a clinical bowling effort led by captain Pat Cummins (3/28) and Eshan Malinga, who collectively stifled RCB’s chase. A handy cameo from Aniket Verma also played a role in SRH’s dominant total.

In reply, RCB were bowled out for 189, despite strong starts from Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. The middle-order collapse handed them a 42-run defeat.

Points Table Impact

  • RCB remain third with 17 points (8 wins, 4 losses, 1 no result).
  • SRH, though eliminated, jump to eighth place with 10 points (5 wins, 7 losses in 13 games).

Key Highlights:

  • Ishan Kishan: 94* off 48 balls, Player of the Match
  • SRH Total: 231/6
  • RCB: Bowled out for 189
  • Winning Margin: SRH beat RCB by 42 runs
  • Standouts: Pat Cummins (3/28), Eshan Malinga (2 wickets), Aniket Verma (cameo)

Kishan’s focus on mindset, preparation, and execution reflects the maturity of a player who continues to evolve — a bright spot in what has been a late, yet impactful resurgence for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
