New Delhi, December 1: Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan shared an emotional message for his former Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI), after being signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The explosive left-hander became one of the most sought-after players in the auction, which began at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Mumbai Indians jumped into the bidding early, eager to reunite with their former star, but were soon challenged by Punjab Kings (PBKS) and later Delhi Capitals (DC). The intense bidding war drove the price up to Rs 10 crore, forcing MI to withdraw. Just as PBKS appeared to secure Kishan, Sunrisers Hyderabad made a late entry, eventually winning the bid at Rs 11.25 crore, making him one of the marquee signings of the auction.
Taking to Instagram, Kishan expressed his gratitude to the Mumbai Indians franchise, with whom he spent six memorable seasons from 2018 to 2023. “So many memories with all of you, so many moments of joy, happiness, and growth. MI, Mumbai, and the Paltan will always remain in my heart. I’ve grown as a person and a player with all of you by my side. We say goodbye with memories that will stay with me for life. Thank you to the management, coaches, the players I’ve played with, and all you fans for always being in my corner,” he wrote.
In a video shared by SRH, Kishan expressed his excitement about joining the franchise, saying, “Hi Hyderabad, I’m super stoked to be joining this incredible team and be part of this amazing franchise. Looking forward to working with each one of you and Orange Army, let’s play with fire.”
Since his IPL debut in 2016, Kishan has represented Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians. In 105 IPL matches, he has amassed 2,644 runs at an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 135.87, including 16 fifties and a top score of 99. During his tenure with MI, he scored 2,325 runs in 89 matches, averaging 29.80 with a strike rate of 136.84, including 15 half-centuries.
For India, Kishan has played 61 matches across formats, scoring 1,807 runs at an average of 33.46, with one century and 14 fifties. His highest score of 210 came in an ODI. In 32 T20Is, he has scored 796 runs at an average of 25.67 and a strike rate of 124.67, including six fifties and a best of 89.
