Washington [US], February 27: Oscar-nominated Conclave star Isabella Rossellini has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Wallis Simpson biopic, The Bitter End (working title), where she will portray Suzanne Blum, a pivotal character in the drama. The film, produced by John Gore Studios, also stars Joan Collins as Wallis Simpson.
Rossellini’s character, Suzanne Blum, is a powerful French lawyer and confidante of Simpson. Under Blum’s influence, Simpson becomes entangled in a complex and controlling relationship, which explores themes of obsession and coercive control. The film focuses on Wallis, the Duchess of Windsor and wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor (former King Edward VIII).
Rossellini expressed her excitement about joining the project, saying, “I am absolutely thrilled to join the incomparable Joan Collins and the brilliant Mike Newell in bringing this extraordinary story back to life. Louise Fennell’s script allows us to delve into the complex and devastating relationship between these two iconic women, their profound impact on one another, and their lasting mark on history.”
The Bitter End is directed by Mike Newell, with a screenplay by Louise Fennell. The film is produced by Gore, Richard Holmes, and Francis Hopkinson, with Hilary Strong, Michael Foster, and Percy Gibson serving as executive producers. The production is scheduled to begin shooting in the UK in May.
Rossellini recently garnered critical acclaim for her role as Sister Agnes in Edward Berger’s Conclave, which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.
