Irfan Pathan Reflects On India’s Defeat To England In Third T20I

New Delhi [India], January 29: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan analyzed the reasons behind India’s defeat to England in the third T20I of their five-match series at the Nirajan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Tuesday.

England emerged victorious by 26 runs, keeping the series alive with a 2-1 scoreline. Despite an early burst from Abhishek Sharma, India fell short of the target of 172 runs.

Pathan shared his thoughts on social media, emphasizing the importance of rotating the strike on a slower pitch, stating, “In T20 cricket, the ability to rotate the strike is crucial, especially on slightly slower wickets. India left it too late in the end.”

Reviewing the game, India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bowl first. England’s opener Ben Duckett played a crucial role, scoring a half-century before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya. Duckett’s partnership with Jos Buttler placed England at a solid 83/2.

However, England’s middle order struggled against Varun Chakravarthy, who claimed remarkable figures of 5/24, reducing England to 127/8. Liam Livingstone’s late surge, with 43 off 24 balls, along with solid contributions from Adil Rashid and Mark Wood, took England to a total of 171/9.

Although the target seemed slightly under par, England’s bowlers capitalized on India’s top-order collapse, with none of the top four batsmen surpassing 24 runs. Hardik Pandya top-scored with 40 off 35 balls, forming a 38-run partnership with Axar Patel, but after his dismissal in the 19th over, India’s tail couldn’t manage the chase, falling 26 runs short.

With India still leading the series 2-1, the fourth T20I will take place in Pune on Friday, January 31.
