Iranian Firms Urge India And Global Bodies To Help Lift US Sanctions Hindering Trade

Tehran [Iran]: Top Iranian businesses have appealed to the Indian government and international organisations to help lift US-imposed sanctions that are crippling their ability to trade globally, particularly with India.

Industry leaders from companies like Modiran Polymers and Mobarakeh Steel Group voiced their concerns during the Iran Expo, stating that the sanctions have restricted financial transactions, disrupted shipping logistics, and forced them to use third-party routes to conduct even routine trade.

“India is a good country, but we can’t do business directly due to US sanctions,” said Mohammad Kaboli, Managing Director of Modiran Polymer. “We have to use the Dubai transit route, because of issues with money transfers and transportation. Very few shipments come directly to Iran.”

Kaboli stressed that while the quality of Iranian products is attracting Indian buyers, the inability to process payments through standard systems like SWIFT poses a major hurdle.
He added, “Our only request to the government is to solve these problems so companies like ours can export smoothly. We hope ongoing Iran-US negotiations will improve the situation.”

Similarly, Abouzar Alvandi, Export Head for Far East and Middle Asia at Mobarakeh Steel Group, told ANI that their operations are severely affected by financial and logistical sanctions.

“We face major difficulties with SWIFT transactions. Due to the risk of secondary sanctions, we’re forced to export via third-party traders instead of selling directly to end users,” said Alvandi.
“On top of that, very few shipping companies are willing to deal with Iranian ports. This creates severe operational constraints.”

The business leaders collectively called on India, which maintains deep historical and trade ties with Iran, and global institutions to play a more active role in mediating the lifting of restrictions that prevent fair trade and market access for Iranian exporters.
