Amid escalating tensions in the region, Masoud Pezeshkian said several countries have begun mediation efforts to ease the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian stated that some nations had initiated diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and its adversaries. However, he stressed that any mediation should address those responsible for escalating the situation.
The Iranian president reiterated that Tehran remains committed to long-term peace in West Asia, while making it clear that the country would firmly defend its sovereignty.
“Some countries have initiated efforts for mediation. Our response to them is clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region, but we have not the slightest hesitation in defending the dignity and authority of our country,” Pezeshkian said.
He added that mediation efforts should focus on parties that “ignited the fire of provocation” by underestimating the Iranian people.
Intensifying Strikes Between Iran and Israel
The diplomatic signals come as military clashes intensify. Israeli warplanes launched a new wave of strikes targeting Tehran, with witnesses reporting powerful explosions that shook several neighbourhoods.
According to the Israeli Defense Forces, the strikes were part of a “broad-scale wave of attacks” aimed at key Iranian military and strategic locations.
The United States has also stepped up its campaign. Pete Hegseth said the American air operations against Iran are expected to intensify further.
Iran Launches Retaliatory Missile and Drone Attacks
In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks against Israeli targets and countries hosting US military bases in the region.
Several Gulf nations reported interceptions of incoming threats. Qatar said it intercepted a drone heading toward Al Udeid Air Base, which serves as the forward headquarters of the United States Central Command.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia reported intercepting and destroying three ballistic missiles headed toward Sultan Air Base.
The rapidly expanding confrontation has raised concerns that the conflict could evolve into a wider regional war despite growing diplomatic efforts to bring the sides to the negotiating table.
