Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: A clinical all-round performance from Gujarat Titans (GT) powered them to a 38-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad on Friday in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The win propelled GT to second place on the points table, tied at 14 points with Mumbai Indians, but separated by net run rate.

Batting first after SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field, GT put up a formidable 224/6 on the board. The openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan gave the hosts a flying start, racing to 53/0 in just four overs.
Sai Sudharsan narrowly missed his half-century, getting dismissed for a blistering 48 off 23 balls (9 fours), while Gill anchored the innings with a well-compiled 76 off 38 before being run out in the 13th over. Jos Buttler joined the party with a stylish 64 off 37, smashing boundaries and sixes to push the total past 200. A cameo by Washington Sundar helped Gujarat close at 224/6.
For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat was the most effective bowler, returning figures of 3/35, while Pat Cummins and Zeeshan Ansari claimed one wicket each.

Chasing a daunting 225, SRH started aggressively with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma going after the bowlers in the powerplay. They brought up 45 runs in just four overs, unsettling GT’s pace attack. However, a sharp catch by Rashid Khan off Prasidh Krishna ended Head’s innings at 20(16).

Ishan Kishan managed a scratchy 13(17) before falling to Gerald Coetzee, while Abhishek Sharma powered on, scoring a brilliant 74, including a fifty marked by explosive shots against Rashid. However, Ishant Sharma dismissed Abhishek with a well-directed short ball.
The chase fell apart after that, with Heinrich Klaasen (23) edging behind and Mohammed Siraj striking twice in quick succession to seal Hyderabad’s fate. Despite some late resistance from Nitish Reddy and Pat Cummins, who hit a few boundaries, the asking rate proved too steep.
Gujarat were penalised for a slow over-rate late in the game, but it had no impact on the result as SRH finished well short at 186/7, handing GT a comprehensive 38-run win.
GT’s solid win under pressure has intensified the race to the playoffs, as the tournament enters its final leg with teams closely bunched on the points table.
