Cameron Green emerged as the biggest headline-maker at the IPL 2026 Auction, held in Abu Dhabi on December 16, after being snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a staggering ₹25.2 crore. The deal makes Green the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history and the third-highest bid overall.
The Australian all-rounder entered the auction at a base price of ₹2 crore and quickly triggered an intense bidding war. Mumbai Indians, despite initiating the bidding, were forced to withdraw early due to a limited purse of ₹2.75 crore, as several franchises aggressively raised the stakes.
As expected, it came down to KKR and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) — the two franchises with the biggest purses heading into the auction. In the end, KKR outbid CSK to secure Green, underlining their intent to build a formidable all-round core for the upcoming season.
KKR were not done there. The two-time champions also made a massive investment in Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, acquiring him for ₹18 crore, signalling a strong focus on strengthening their death bowling.
While Green dominated headlines, there were notable secondary signings as well. Venkatesh Iyer was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for ₹7 crore, while leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi joined Rajasthan Royals (RR) for ₹7.2 crore.
With franchises splurging heavily on match-winners and all-rounders, the IPL 2026 Auction once again highlighted the premium placed on versatility, pace, and proven international experience — none more so than Cameron Green, who justified every rupee of the record-breaking bid.
