IPL 2025: Virat Kohli Rules Eden- 1000 Runs, 400 Games & a Masterclass Chase

Kohli becomes first batter to score 1000+ IPL runs against four franchises, marking his 400th T20 appearance with a match-winning fifty at Eden Gardens.

Kolkata, March 23: Virat Kohli once again proved why he’s the undisputed ‘Chase Master’ of the Indian Premier League, anchoring Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a clinical 7-wicket victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at a packed Eden Gardens on Saturday.

Kohli’s unbeaten 59 off 36 balls not only sealed the win but also etched his name deeper into IPL history. With a casual single in the 10th over, he became the third player ever to score 1000+ runs against KKR, joining the elite company of David Warner and Rohit Sharma. But he didn’t stop there.

The RCB icon is now the only player in IPL history to have scored 1000+ runs against four different franchises — Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and KKR.

“Records come, but the chase stays on — that’s always been my space,” Kohli is known to say, and he lived up to every word on Saturday night.

400 T20s and Counting

The match also marked another major milestone in Kohli’s career — his 400th T20 match, becoming just the third Indian after Rohit Sharma (448) and Dinesh Karthik (412) to reach the feat.

Kohli opened the innings with Phil Salt, who went on the offensive early. While Salt lit up the powerplay, Kohli anchored with poise, unleashing his classic strokes and calculated aggression to guide RCB through a tricky chase of 175.

Calm in the Storm

As wickets fell at the other end, Kohli stood tall. His 59-run knock featured four boundaries and three sixes, and his calm presence ensured that RCB never lost control of the chase. Kohli’s innings was a testament to his evolution — less about fireworks, more about finishing.

The duo’s 95-run opening stand laid the foundation for the win, and Kohli’s presence till the end ensured the celebrations began early in the Bengaluru dugout.

Kohli: King of Milestones

With this performance, Kohli added yet another page to his glittering IPL resume:

  • Most runs in IPL history: 8,004+
  • Most runs against 4 franchises (1000+)
  • 400 T20 matches
  • 8 centuries, 55 fifties in IPL

The roar of Eden Gardens echoed with chants of “RCB! RCB!” — a rare sight in Kolkata, all thanks to the king in red and gold.
