Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 5: The IPL 2025 season continues to tighten its grip on on-field discipline as Lucknow Super Giants faced dual penalties following their 12-run win over Mumbai Indians on Friday night.
Skipper Rishabh Pant was fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate, while rising spinner Digvesh Singh was docked 50% of his match fees for his exuberant “notebook” celebration that breached the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
❗ Pant Becomes Third Captain Fined This Season
In its official release, the IPL stated:
“Rishabh Pant, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 16 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians…”
This is Pant’s first over-rate offence of the season, falling under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He now joins Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals) and Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians) as captains fined this season for the same reason.
🔥 Digvesh Singh Accumulates Second Demerit Point
The 22-year-old Digvesh Singh, who’s made headlines with his fiery spells and signature “notebook celebration,” was fined for repeating the gesture after dismissing Naman Dhir during Mumbai’s chase.
This act, considered a Level 1 breach under Article 2.5, led to:
- 50% match fee deduction
- Second demerit point of the season
Earlier, he was fined 25% of his match fee for performing the same celebration after dismissing Priyansh Arya in the match against Punjab Kings on April 1.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement read.
📝 What’s Next for Digvesh?
With two demerit points now, Digvesh is on thin ice. Accumulating four or more within a season could lead to a match ban, according to IPL rules.
As LSG continues its campaign, both the team and Digvesh will need to tread carefully—maintaining intensity without crossing disciplinary boundaries.
