IPL 2025: “It Still Makes Me Laugh ….” — Shreyas Iyer Stunned After SRH’s Record-Breaking Run Chase

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer admits his team misfired in bowling and fielding as Abhishek Sharma’s record 141 leads SRH to the second-highest successful run chase in IPL history.

Hyderabad, April 13: Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer was left speechless after witnessing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pull off a jaw-dropping chase of 246 runs in just 18.3 overs. Speaking after the eight-wicket defeat, Iyer conceded that his team’s sloppy fielding and poor bowling rotations cost them dearly.

“It still makes me laugh that they chased it with two overs to spare,” Iyer said, summing up the disbelief shared by many.

Iyer acknowledged that PBKS had put up a “fantastic total” on the board, powered by his own 82 off 36 balls and a final-over onslaught from Marcus Stoinis (34* off 11). Yet even that wasn’t enough to stop the Abhishek Sharma-Travis Head duo—now popularly known as Travishek—who stitched a 171-run opening stand and crushed Punjab’s hopes with ease.

On Abhishek’s career-defining knock of 141 in 55 balls, Iyer added, “It was one of the best knocks I have ever seen. He was lucky early on, but his execution was exceptional.”

He also pointed to missed catches and poor execution with the ball, especially in the second innings where dew may have played a role. “The over rotation could have been better. Ferguson can give you wickets, but these things happen. Dew made it tougher, but full credit to the way they batted,” he said.

Match Summary:
Batting first, PBKS got off to a flier with Priyansh Arya (36 off 13) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 off 23) setting the tone. Iyer then anchored the innings with a fiery 82, and Stoinis applied the finishing touches with a 10-ball blitz. The Kings posted a formidable 245/6.

However, SRH responded with sheer brutality. Abhishek Sharma delivered a record-breaking performance—the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. Supported by Travis Head’s quickfire 66, SRH reached the target with nine balls to spare. Heinrich Klaasen (21*) and Ishan Kishan (9*) finished things off after Abhishek’s dismissal.

Harshal Patel (4/42) and Eshan Malinga (2/45) were among the few positives for SRH with the ball.

With this win, SRH climbed to the eighth spot on the table, while PBKS stayed in sixth position.

Brief Scores:
PBKS – 245/6 (Shreyas Iyer 82, Prabhsimran Singh 42, Harshal Patel 4/42)
SRH – 247/2 in 18.3 overs (Abhishek Sharma 141, Travis Head 66, Arshdeep Singh 1/37)
Result: SRH won by 8 wickets
