IPL 2025: Deepak Hooda’s Struggles Continue as Harshal Patel Stars in SRH Win Over CSK

New Delhi [India]: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Deepak Hooda endured another disappointing outing in the ongoing IPL 2025, managing a sluggish 22 off 21 balls during his side’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

Hooda’s innings, which included just one six and a four, came at a strike rate barely above 100 and ended with him being the last CSK batter dismissed as the team folded for 154 in 19.5 overs. The 30-year-old has been struggling for form, with previous scores of 3, 4, and 0 in his last three games against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively.

Despite a lackluster IPL 2023, where he scored just 145 runs in 11 matches, CSK invested INR 1.7 crore in him at the 2024 mega auction. So far this season, he has managed 29 runs in 4 matches at a poor strike rate of 74.36.

Hooda’s IPL performance has been on a steady decline since a promising 2022 season with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) where he scored 451 runs in 15 matches. In 2023, he registered only 84 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 93.33. Overall, in 122 IPL matches, Hooda has scored 1494 runs at an average of 17.79, with only eight half-centuries.

In contrast, SRH pacer Harshal Patel delivered a match-winning performance with figures of 4/28, earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Patel’s scalps included key CSK names such as Sam Curran, Dewald Brevis, MS Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad, helping SRH secure a dominant win by restricting CSK to a modest total.
