Injured Leopard Found In Kannur; Prohibitory Orders Issued To Ensure Public Safety

Kannur (Kerala) [India]: An injured leopard caught in a snare was discovered on private land in Kakkayangad, Muzhakkunnu panchayat, Kannur district, on Monday morning, January 6, 2025. The leopard was found around 8:30 a.m. on the property of B.K. Prakashan.

The incident attracted a large crowd, prompting authorities to take swift action. Police and forest officials arrived at the scene to secure the area and ensure the safety of the public and the animal. To prevent disturbances, the authorities cordoned off the location.

In response to the situation, Kannur District Collector Arun K. Vijayan issued prohibitory orders under BNSS Section 13. The order bans public gatherings within the Muzhakkunnu panchayat limits from 10 a.m. on January 6 to 5 p.m. on January 7 to maintain public safety and prevent potential chaos.

District Collector Vijayan, who also serves as the District Magistrate, warned the public against violating the prohibitory orders, stating that disciplinary action would be taken against offenders.

Efforts are ongoing to safely rescue the leopard and provide necessary medical attention for its injuries. Local residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with officials during the rescue operations.
