In a deeply disturbing incident, Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a senior associate consultant at Infosys’ Helix department in Bengaluru, has been arrested for allegedly filming a female colleague inside the women’s restroom. The accused was caught red-handed after the woman spotted him inside the washroom and raised the alarm.
According to police, other staff members apprehended Mali on the spot, and the woman’s husband filed a formal complaint later that day. A subsequent search of the accused’s phone revealed over 50 such videos, including footage of the complainant and several other women, indicating a possible pattern of repeated offences.
“I get satisfaction from such videos,” Accused Confesses
During police interrogation, Mali reportedly confessed to filming multiple women and said he derived “satisfaction” from watching such recordings. The 29-year-old, originally from Sangli district in Maharashtra, holds an engineering degree and is the son of a farmer. His family, police say, was shocked to learn of his actions.
“We are investigating how long this behavior continued and whether more women were targeted. We are also checking if he shared these videos elsewhere,”

Station Bail Granted Under BNS
Mali was produced before a magistrate and granted station bail under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as the offences carry a punishment of less than seven years. The court has also reminded the police to ensure all arrest protocols are followed to avoid procedural errors that may affect prosecution.
A forensic analysis of his phone is currently underway to trace the origins and potential distribution of the videos.
Infosys Terminates Employment, Assures Full Cooperation
Infosys released an official statement confirming Mali’s immediate termination from the company:
“We acted promptly to support the complainant and facilitated her filing a police complaint. The individual has been separated from the company. We are cooperating fully with the authorities.”
The tech giant emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and misconduct, while expressing solidarity with the victim.
The case has raised serious concerns over workplace safety in the IT sector, especially for women employees, with many calling for stricter internal surveillance, mental health checks, and safe reporting mechanisms within corporate environments.
