In a strong diplomatic push following the Pahalgam terror attack, an all-party delegation from India arrived in Russia as part of India’s global outreach to garner international consensus against cross-border terrorism, particularly emanating from Pakistan. The visit comes in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, India’s precision response targeting terror infrastructure across the border.
Led by DMK MP Kanimozhi, the delegation includes Samajwadi Party leader Rajeev Rai, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Prem Chand Gupta, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, and former Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri. The delegation was welcomed in Moscow by Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar.
Speaking to media, Kanimozhi emphasized Russia’s longstanding support:
“Russia has been a strategic partner… It becomes very important at this point to reach out when we have been facing terror attacks time and again, and we’ve lost 26 lives in India.”
The MPs will meet with senior Russian officials, including the Chair of the State Duma Committee, Deputy Foreign Minister, think tanks, and media representatives to explain India’s position and push for greater global cooperation to combat terrorism.
Samajwadi Party’s Rajeev Rai was unequivocal in his remarks:
“Russia is our historical friend, standing by our side in every situation… Pakistan poses a threat not only to India but to the entire world. There’s hardly a global terror incident that doesn’t trace back to Pakistan.”
He added that India has presented evidence to underline Pakistan’s involvement and called for global isolation of Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The delegation underscores India’s bipartisan unity in the face of terrorism, with representatives from across the political spectrum presenting a unified front. The effort highlights India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism and its resolve to take the fight beyond borders—not only militarily but diplomatically.
India’s Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam attack, involved precision strikes on terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). While military action has since paused following a call between the DGMOs of both countries, India has continued its diplomatic offensive to hold Pakistan accountable on the international stage.
The Russia visit is part of a broader four-nation diplomatic campaign that has already seen similar efforts in the UAE, with more destinations expected to follow in the coming days.
