Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], June 9: In the shocking case of the Indore couple who went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, Special Investigation Team (SIT) Chief Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor confirmed on Monday that post-mortem findings revealed two sharp head injuries on the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi.
“Post-mortem indicates two head injuries inflicted by a sharp cutting weapon,” said Kharkongor, as the investigation continues to unfold across multiple states.
Three individuals — Vishal Chauhan, Raj Kushwaha, and Akash Rajput — have already been arrested in the case. Meanwhile, Meghalaya Police is en route to formally arrest Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after she surrendered to local authorities earlier today.
Speaking to ANI, Kharkongor, who is also SP (City), East Khasi Hills, stated that the SIT is working on securing transit remand for all four accused to bring them to Shillong for further interrogation.
“Our team is reaching Ghazipur to formally arrest Sonam. Last night, two police teams were dispatched—one to Uttar Pradesh and one to Madhya Pradesh. Patterns suggest Raja and Sonam had strained relations, but that remains under investigation,” he said.
Sonam was found near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway, according to Uttar Pradesh Police. Her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was later found dead in Meghalaya, prompting the registration of a murder case.
The couple, both from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon before going missing—sparking a multi-state investigation that has now led to multiple arrests and growing suspicion around Sonam’s role.
